Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) section of the Air Traffic Services Division ensures the flow of aeronautical data and aeronautical information necessary for global air traffic management (ATM) system safety, regularity, economy and efficiency in an environmentally sustainable manner.
The role and importance of aeronautical data and aeronautical information has changed significantly with the implementation of area navigation (RNAV), performance-based navigation (PBN), airborne computer-based navigation systems, performance-based communication (PBC), performance-based surveillance (PBS), data link systems and satellite voice communications (SATVOICE).
AIM consists of the following:
- Publication Section
- International NOTAM Office (NOF)
- Cartography Section
The Aeronautical information is provided in the form of the Integrated Aeronautical Information Package consisting of the following elements:
- Aeronautical Information Publication
- AIP Amendment service
- AIP Supplement (AIP SUP)
- NOTAM
- Pre-Flight information Bulletins (PIB)
- Aeronautical Information Circulars (AIC)
- Checklists and Monthly NOTAM Summaries
Aeronautical Charts
There are a number of Aeronautical documents available for viewing. These documents are amended and updated by the Aeronautical Information Services section.
Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP)
The AIP is the basic aeronautical information document containing information of a lasting character essential to air navigation. It is maintained up-to-date by amendments and supplements.
NOTAM,PIB, Checklist & Summaries
NOTAM Services
Notice to Airmen NOTAM contain information concerning the establishment, condition or change in any aeronautical facility, service, procedure or hazard, the timely knowledge of which is essential for personnel concerned with flight operations. NOTAM are published as and when necessary to disseminate information of direct operational significance which is of an ephemeral nature, or require advance distribution, or is appropriate to the AIP but immediate dissemination is required.
Pre-Flight Information
PIB contains a summary of current NOTAM and other information of urgent character for the flight crews and operators. PIB are available at the aerodrome ATS unit or NOTAM office.
Checklists And Summaries
A checklist of valid NOTAM is issued monthly via Aeronautical Fixed Service (AFS). A printed summary of NOTAM is distributed by mail to all recipients of the Integrated Aeronautical Information Package.
These checklists contain a clear presentation of the valid NOTAM and information about the number of the latest issued AIP AMDT, AIRAC AIP AMDT, AIP SUP and AIC as well as the numbers of the elements issued under the AIRAC that will become effective or, if none, the NIL AIRAC notification.
Aeronautical Information Circular (AIC) Supplements
The Aeronautical Information Circulars contain information on the long-term forecast of any major change in legislation, regulations, procedure or facilities; information of purely explanatory or advisory nature liable to affect flight safety; and information or notification of an explanatory or advisory nature concerning technical, legislative or purely administrative matters.
Aeronautical Charts
AIM provides a range of aeronautical charts. These charts are maps designed to assist in navigating aircrafts by enabling pilots to determine their position, safe altitude, best route to a destination, navigation aids along the way, alternative landing areas in case of an in-flight emergency, and other useful information such as radio frequencies and airspace boundaries.
Here are the available aeronautical charts produced:
- Instrument Approach and Landing Charts (IALs)
- Enroute Chart (ERC)
- Visual Terminal Chart (VTC)
- Aerodromes/Communication Chart (ADCOM)
